Dish T.V. Tips: - Programming Your DISH Remote to your television or other device:

Your DISH remote is pre-programmed to work your DISH system. One thing to keep in mind is that the remote will do what you tell it to. You must make sure that if you want the remote to work your DISH system, the small SAT button on the top of the remote is active (lights up when you enter a command on the remote). The same remains true if you want to use the other modes (TV, VCR, AUX), the device that you are trying to control must light up. If the wrong button lights, push the correct one to tell the remote just what device you want to control. When you have finished using the remote for one device, remember to push the SAT button to return to DISH functions. Doing this will save lots of frustration and phone calls.
There are usually two reasons for having to reprogram your DISH remote, changing televison sets or other devices, or getting a new DISH remote. If you have changed your television or other device, look for the "Device Code" that will be listed with the documentation for your new equipment. This will save time when reprogramming the DISH remote. If you have this number:
Turn on the device you want the remote to control using the device's buttons or the remote that came with the device..(not the DISH remote)
Press and hold the device mode button (TV,SAT,) on the the DISH remote until the other mode buttons light up..(about three seconds) then release.
Using the DISH remote number buttons..punch in the Device Code for that device
Press and release the # key on the DISH remote..(bottom right)
Test by pressing the Power button..device should turn off. Turn device back on with the DISH remote (Power) and test other buttons..(volume, channel etc.)..if these work you're finished..if not start at beginning and try again. Make sure that you press the "SAT" button to return to the DISH system!

If you cannot find or do not have the Device Code to the device you wish to program, you can scan for the code and program the remote as follows: (This may take a little time, but will work so be patient)

Turn the device you want to use the DISH remote to control ON, using the device buttons or the remote that came with it..(not the DISH remote)
Press and hold the mode button for the device (TV,AUX,) on the DISH remote) for about three seconds until the other modes light up, then release. Button should flash to show it is ready.
Press the Power button
Use the Up ^ button to scan through the codes. Each time you press it you advance one code, when the correct code is reached, the device will turn OFF. Here is where you have to be patient..there are over a hundred different codes and you have to hit the correct one. If you scan too fast you may go past the code. If your device turns off and you have pressed the Up^ button again, use the Down button to return to that code. When the correct code has been entered and the device has turned off:
Press the # key (bottom right) of the DISH remote to store the code into memory. Press the Power button to turn the device back on.
If the device turns back on test the volume or other buttons to make sure they work...if it does not turn back on or if the other buttons do not work..start at beginning and try again.. if device turns on and other buttons work...you're finished and deserve a treat.*

*If you forgot to push the SAT mode button to tell the DISH remote to return to controlling the DISH system, you may NOT have a treat.
